About

Stelwen Cavaliers is located in beautiful Newfoundland, Canada. We are a small hobby preservation breeder, breeding for health first and foremost. We strive to breed versatile, typy and happy Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Our dogs live in home and are part of our family. Our goal in breeding Cavaliers is to preserve and improve upon the health of the breed, breeding for ourselves first and foremost, for conformation but also strive to breed dogs that are active and willing to please. Our dogs love to have a job, whether that be agility, Rally obedience, therapy work, barn hunt etc.

We believe in breeding cavaliers that are true to the standard, in conformation and in temperament. The standard states, "Fearless and sporting in character yet at the same time gentle and affectionate". We are very proud of our dogs and their soundness in temperment, they should always have a happy, loving nature! It is what makes a cavalier, a cavalier!

I am a member in good standing with the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), Cavalier King Charles Club of Canada(CKCSCC), Cavalier King Charles Club of Atlantic Canada, The Mid-Florida Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club (UK), and The Newfoundland Kennel Club.

Dogs that are part of our breeding program are screened for the following:

- Mitral Valve Disease by a board Certified Cardiologist (Danish Protocol)

- MRI for Syringomyelia (SM) and Chiari Malformation (CM) and other neurological conditions

- Patella Luxation

- DNA Tested for Dry Eye, Episodic Falling Disorder and Curly Coat

- Eye Diseases by a board certified ophthalmologist

We follow the testing protocals and recommendations outlined on the CKCSCC's website. Please follow the link to read more about these conditions and the importance of screening breeding dogs.

In the Past

I have been the proud owner of Cavaliers for over ten years, with my first cavalier being a ruby boy, Ceasar. Ceasar finished his championship when he was two years old, he was a beautiful larger dog that truly embodied the cavalier temperament.  Ceasar was a registered therapy dog who put a smile on the face of whomever he visited.

We are incredibly proud of these dogs and their impact on us and everyone who met them. Each of these dogs were owner handled to their championship. I started breeding in 2020 with my foundation bitch, Darcy. None of the dogs below were ever bred, I simply enjoyed showing them and their loving companionship.
